The first, annual South Yorkshire & Humber Built in Quality Awards was held last week, with Alan Cotterell Practice Ltd, the architects behind the Keepmoat Stadium, picking up one of these highly prestigious awards.

The glittering ceremony, held at Tankersley Manor Hotel, Barnsley and sponsored by IHS, NHER, Sandtoft Tiles and Yorkshire Water, saw companies and projects from all over the region competing in categories such as Sustainability, Commercial Projects and Domestic Extensions in a bid to receive recognition and honour for their high quality workmanship, excellence in design & construction and customer/client satisfaction.

Mayor of Doncaster, Martin Winter said: "I am delighted that the Keepmoat Stadium has been recognised at the Built in Quality awards. I always pledged that I would provide the residents of Doncaster with a fantastic community facility for all to use and this award highlights the kind of quality that we are providing in Doncaster."

Alan Cotterell Practice Ltd was one of the big winners of the evening in the Community Project category, and was up against some tough competition from South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive and the New Options Group.

Other winners included Brinkley Homes, Gleeson Homes, Wright Design (Hull) Ltd, Rhys Taylor and Bowmer & Kirkland Ltd. The guests enjoyed a champagne reception, a delicious three course meal and entertainment from local comedian Brian Newbold, a charity raffle for YAA, where prizes included tickets to see Paul Weller at Doncaster Dome and a signed Everton FC shirt, all followed by the ceremony itself.

The organisations that have been successful in the South Yorkshire & Humber Built in Quality Awards 2008 are also eligible for nomination in the National LABC Finals, to be held in London on October 16th, 2008.

Event chair, Paul Cooper said, “The evening was a huge success and enjoyed by all. We would like to thank everyone who attended the event, the sponsors, the nominees and the winners.”

“As well as rewarding these fantastic projects and developing awareness of the LABC, we have raised 1441 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

We are already looking for potential nominees for next year’s event and hope that it will be just as successful as this year, if not more.”
